Chocolate shop, Ice-cream parlour and a touch of art – "Atelier delle Dolcezze" in the heart of Ischia

Run by the family owning the hotel Il Gattopardo, the chocolate shop is located in the best known square of the town of Ischia, just a few steps from the famous Bar Calise.

The 19th century walls now hosting a place where both eyes and palate find inspiration, were in the past a home to the De Angelis family and artists Luigi, Federico and Giovanni De Angelis, attended by outstanding figures such as Pierpaolo Pasolini, Eugenio Montale, Hans Purrmann, Giuliano Vangi, Vittorio Sgarbi and many others.

It is for this reason that today the rooms hosting the ice-cream parlour are partly converted into an art gallery, with the stated purpose of reviving the artistic spirit and talent that once made this house a meeting place for cultural circles.
All this is now matched with a different kind of art, the high art of confectionery, with the selling of “Maglio 1875” chocholate and the production of an entirely home-made ice-cream, produced only with the freshest milk and cream according to the ancient Maglio recipe.


Particularly rich is the choice of chocolate blends: from “Papuasia” with 36% of cocoa, to “Tingo Maria” (65%) to “Caracas” (100%). Definitely worth a try are also the tastes: “Almond Milk”, “Giffoni Hazelnut”, “Bronte Pistachio” and “Cream of Noble Milk”, a specialty made with organic milk (Slow Food presidium) coming from cows of the Apennine mountains in the Benevento area.

Turning back to chocolate, be surprised by the flavour of our hot chocolate, the “nudes”, or a specialty of the house, namely fruits of the South covered with 60% dark chocolate. Orange stripes, figs with roasted almonds and lemon peel, sour cherries, cherries with almond paste, dates with a paste made with Bronte pistachio, clementines, crunchy mix with “faldacchiera” cream, all delicious!

Thanks to the Maglio quality label, with its history of 130 years, the chocolate shop “Atelier Delle Dolcezze” today becomes a place where to taste the best confectionery tradition on the island.
