Ischia Events: village and religious festivals, historical parades and plenty of culture

Ischia offers a wide array of events and happenings throughout the year: culture and movie events, village festivals and historical commemorations, patronal festivals and international fairs.

In particular, in Spring the town of Forio celebrates Easter with the evocative “Corsa dell’Angelo” (Angel’s Run), during which the statue of the Archangel Gabriel is taken on the shoulders by a group of parishioners who run along the main road of the town accompanied by crowds of people.

In May the main event takes place in Lacco Ameno, where the patron Santa Restituta is commemorated with an accurate historical dramatisation.
On the 24th of June you cannot miss the ‘Ndrezzata, the spectacular folkloric dance typical of Ischia Ponte.

In the same place, July is the month devoted to Saint Anne. On this occasion, artistically decorated allegoric boats and ships convene in the bay around the Aragonese Castle in a long, gay evening with competitions and extraordinary fireworks.

In Summer Ischia is also home to the international Film Festival and the Ischia Global Award, international events with the participation of people from the whole world, the International Journalism Prize and the PIDA – Ischia International Architecture Prize.

On the 26th of August the municipality of Ischia celebrates Saint Alexander with a sumptuous parade in historical costumes starting from the old bridge of the Aragonese Castle. At the end of the month, arts and crafts from Ischia and the region are displayed at the Expo Ischia fair.
