Forio d'Ischia: beaches, spas and breathtaking views

Forio is the largest municipality of the Island of Ischia – as well as one of the most fascinating.

Thanks to its position in the westernmost corner of the island between the sea and mount Epomeo, Forio can boast scented vineyards, the most beautiful sunsets and the most characteristic beaches, along with thermal parks, museums and monuments.

In the old town centre you should try to spot the twelve watchtowers of the Middle Ages, among which the Torrione, the true symbol of Forio: a tower for defence purposes built in 1480 and today converted into a museum and gallery for photo and art exhibitions.

Within a short distance you find the Chiesa del Soccorso, a small white church dating back to the middle of the 14th century. The church overlooks the sea and is visible from almost everywhere in the municipality. Another cultural attraction not to be missed is La Colombaia, a gorgeous villa now hosting a museum, that once used to be director Luchino Visconti’s summer residence.

The historical centre of Forio is just a short stroll away, and can be reached with a pleasant walk along a cosy street with clothing shops and artisans’ workshops, cafés and restaurants.

In Forio you also find the only beach of the island that is entirely public, i.e. free of charge, namely Cava dell’isola, only 300 m away from the hotel.

The hotel is also ideally located to reach the famous Poseidon Gardens (900 m distance) – the largest thermal park of the island – as well as the Ravino Gardens with their collection of cactuses and succulent plants, and the wonderful garden of La Mortella.

Among its assets, Forio also displays “Cava dell’isola”, the only completely public beach (i.e. not equipped with deckchairs etc. and thus free of charge) of the whole island, at just 300 m from the hotel, as well as the famous Poseidon Gardens (900 m), the largest thermal park of the island.
