Located to the North of the hotel, the wine estate Monte/De Angelis boast a tradition dating back to 1766, when the first labels of the Monte family where placed on Per’ é Palummo wine bottles.
Since then, generation after generation, the Monte family has traded over what is probably a historical record on the island. Today, hotel owner Lucia Monte, daughter of Giovannangelo – in the past known all over the island for his high expertise in wine production – still produces own wines with DOCG quality label, such as Forastera and Per’ è Palummo.
The place where wine processing and tasting still takes place is a wine cellar of 1823, a typical example of Ischia’s architectural tradition. In this green tuff cave we still find, unchanged, the old rooms and tools for the production of wine: the millstone, the store-room, the so-called “pietra torcia” (the most ancient pressing system) and the basin for the collection of rainwater.
A place that can accommodate up to 25 persons who wish to taste a typical dinner based on cave rabbit “hunter style”. On request, it is possible to visit the wine cellar with an expert oenologist.
